INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSUMERS

Forward Foods, LLC is voluntarily recalling the specific flavors of Detour® Deluxe Whey Protein Energy Bars listed here:

• Detour® brand Caramel Peanut bars (85, 43 and 20 gram sizes)
• Detour® brand Lower Sugar Caramel Peanut bars (85 and 43 gram sizes)
• Detour® brand Buzz Caramel Peanut bars (85 gram size)
• Detour® brand Chocolate Crunchy Peanut Butter bars (90 and 45 gram sizes)
• Detour® brand Peanut Butter & Jelly (85 gram size)
• Detour® brand Oatmeal Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip (120 gram size)
• Detour® Runner brand Chocolate Peanut Butter bars (50 and 20 gram sizes)
• Detour® Biker brand Chocolate Peanut Butter bars (50 gram size)
• Detour® Core Strength brand Caramel Peanut bars (50 and 20 gram size)

Detour products are being recalled out of an abundance of caution because they contain roasted peanuts manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). While independent laboratory testing to date has indicated no Salmonella contamination in any Detour products, PCA is the focus of an investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) concerning a recent Salmonella outbreak thought to be caused by tainted peanut products. Forward Foods, LLC is taking this precautionary step to protect consumers and ensure the safety of our products.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

What should I do with the product that is affected by this recall?
Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to destroy them but to retain the back flap of the wrapper and/or the UPC "bar code" found on the bottom of the box along with the "Enjoy By" date found on the side. When removing the back flap of the wrapper be careful not to open the wrapper or cut into it and expose the bar. Consumers who purchased bulk bars at membership clubs like Sam’s and Costco are welcome to return any remaining product to the location of purchase for a refund. Consumers who would like replacement product may click here for the replacement request form.

These products were sold in grocery, drug, warehouse, and other retail stores throughout the United States and Canada as well as over the internet.

Why is Lower Sugar Chocolate Peanut Butter NOT on the recall list?

Detour’s Lower Sugar Chocolate Peanut Butter bar gets its great peanut taste from a blend of natural and artificial peanut flavors, peanut flour and peanut paste. The peanut paste and flour is not sourced from Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) and there is no actual peanut butter or peanuts in the bar. To provide us and our customers additional confidence that this product is unaffected by the PCA recall, we have also verified with each of our other ingredient suppliers that their ingredients, which we have sourced and utilized in this product, have also not been manufactured or sourced from any PCA ingredients. In addition, Forward Foods has always independently tested every Detour bar finished product lot for microbial quality which includes such pathogens as salmonella.

Only flavors identified specifically below are included in this recall. All sizes of these flavors are being recalled.

IDENTIFYING RECALLED PRODUCT FOR CONSUMERS

Our primary concern during this voluntary recall is the health and safety of all Detour consumers. In order to ensure that recalled product is not mistakenly consumed, we are requesting your assistance to identify and visibly alter the package of bars under recall by removing the back flap prior to disposal. By returning those flaps to Detour you are helping to account for recalled bars in compliance with safety regulations and enabling us to completely replace your bars.

We regret any inconvenience this important safety control step creates.

1. The flavor is shown on the right side of each bar. If the bar matches one on the list, please do not consume the bar and continue to step 2. If the bar does not match a flavor listed above it is not being recalled.
   
2. If you would like to request replacement product, please download and complete the Consumer Replacement Request Form
3. In addition to completing the form, you will need to carefully remove the back flap of the wrapper (as shown below) and include it with your request.
   

All claims for replacement product must be submitted along with the wrapper back flap(s) cut outs from each bar to Forward Foods LLC and postmarked no later than March 1, 2009.
